U.S. light sweet crude fro July delivery rose 38 cents to $55.95 inmidday trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange, extending gains madein the previous session, during which oil hit a two-month intraday peakof $56.75.
Oil has now gained 28 percent since the start of the year, and has climbed nearly $9 in the last four weeks.
